Medicare Set Aside/Workers’ Compensation

CMS has issued notification that as of April 1, 2015 it will begin referencing CDC’s Table 1: Life table for the total population: United States, 2010, (Vol. 63, No. 7) for WCMSA life expectancy calculations. This means that for any WCMSA proposal received by CMS, or where any WCMSA case is reopened on or after April 1, 2015, CMS will apply the CDC’s 2010 Table 1 for life expectancy calculations. As such, when reviewing any allocations prepared by a vendor, please make sure the proper tables were used; not using the table after March 31, 2015 will result in an increase in the allocation by CMS.
